On Holding On and Letting Go - Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka

Village Presbyterian Church

Today we turn to Pixar's “Up." The Gospel story is ultimately a love story of God’s love shown in Jesus Christ. After Jesus completes his public ministry on earth, he goes to heaven. From there the Gospel takes a turn from holding on to Jesus to letting him go and moving forward with his commission to “Go into all the world and make disciples…” Our scripture reading is Luke 24:44-53.

We have edited out portions of this sermon that contain copyrighted video clips from the movie “Up." To watch these at home on your own copy of the movie, please refer to the following timestamps:

  1. 1. Ellie and Carl opening story - 7:11-11:29
  2. Mr. Fredricksen gives up the house to save Kevin, Doug and Russell - 1:23:36-1:25-56
  3. Senior Explorers badge award for assisting the elderly - 1:26:56-1:28:44
